Farmers Market Finds

September 23, 2018 by Angel 2 Comments

Fresh carrots on a table

So I found a few gems at the DeKalb Farmers Market. If you’ve never been, you need to make it happen! This was not a big visit, just a quick farmer’s market haul. I also purchased but not photographed: Red Snapper, Mahi Mahi, Pineapple, Watermelon and Strawberries.  And no, I didn’t get the pound cake from the farmers market, lol.  Hey no one’s perfect, right?

Also, did you know that organic fruits & vegetables are labeled with a 5-digit sticker? Usually starts with a 9. These Valencia Oranges are my favorite and easy for kids to eat safely. #spreadtheword

Do you know what these are?

What do you call them in your culture?

I call them Japanese Sweet Potatoes and Quenepas!

Japanese Sweet Potato and Quenepas

The Japanese Sweet Potatoes are sweet and less fibrous than “Yams”.

Quenepas are full of vitamin C and help build strong muscles. They also help with over eating and help you to maintain healthy iron levels.

What do you like to buy when you go to the Farmers Market?  Are there any particular farmer’s markets that you especially like? Please share below, I would love to visit!

All the best,

Angel

Hi Dianna! They taste sweet and creamy, thats if you get a good batch. If they are bad, they start to taste sour and chalky. The seed is pretty large in the middle. They are really popular in the carribean islands. Have you ever had lychee fruit? That’s the closest relative I can think of. Thanks for stopping by!
